Flora on the Trail at Mayo River State Park

Did you know that Mayo River State Park is in both Virginia and North Carolina?

VMNs and trainees from our SWP chapter earned 2 CE hours today at Fall Creek Falls. Regina Flora, one of our new chapter members, is developing a series of interpretive walks across the area called Flora on the Trail.  Today, she led the first hike in the series at Mayo River State Park.  Our hike began in North Carolina and crossed into Virginia.  Attendees learned about Col. William Byrd, who led the 240 mile survey team that defined the border between North Carolina and Virginia.  We also identified many of the local wildflowers and trees and learned about many delightful ecological interactions with their physical surroundings.  Regina hopes to offer Flora on the Trail each month at one of our local trails.

I am looking forward to the next hike.
